A Vintage Back-to-School Party

Has summer flown by for anyone else? It’s crazy that school starts for my girls in just a few short days! We’re trying to pack in the last of the summer fun before life gets even busier next week.  We were grateful for the chance to have one last hoorah and celebrate the start of school with a darling vintage back-to-school party, hosted by our beautiful and talented friend Jenny Keller of Jenny Cookies. Jenny went all out with such fun crafts, lots of great food and drinks and a literal haul of school goodies and supplies that she sent home with all of the attendees. Read on for loads of back-to-school party inspiration, captured by Kelly Clare Photography.

To set the stage for this incredible party, Jenny gathered school related props and decor, most of which she already had around her home.  There were vintage globes, maps, chalkboards, old books, flashcards and plenty of school supplies!  She added splashes of color with gorgeous flower arrangements from her local farmer’s markets displayed in milk bottles, canning jars and vintage thermoses.

For seating, Jenny had child-sized picnic tables scattered around her yard and tables and chairs for adults.  Vintage apple crates housed cute red pillows, personalized with each child’s name.

The party food was nothing short of amazing.  A beautiful table overflowing with charcuterie platters made for the perfect finger snacks while parents mingled and played with their children.  What’s not to love about endless crackers, cheese, fresh fruits, nuts and veggies?

Children had darling individual picnic style lunches served up in berry baskets. Tree Top applesauce pouches, string cheese, alphabet crackers and PB & J sandwiches were perfectly packaged and made for a delicious and kid-approved meal!

With temperatures in the 90s, Jenny made sure to have plenty of beverages on hand to keep guests hydrated.  Beverage carts were filled with sparkling lemonade, prosecco, and plenty of Tree Top apple juice options, not to mention adorable mason jars and paper straws.

A Jenny Cookies party isn’t a party without dessert. We love how Jenny served up a spread of school inspired treats with a vintage style chalkboard as her backdrop! Cupcakes, cookies, caramel apples, rice krispy treats, mini pies and even a cake made to look like a stack of books, definitely delighted everyone in attendance. There were so many cute details not to be missed, like Jenny’s use of pencils in lieu of wooden sticks for the caramel apples and cupcakes topped with fondant chalkboards.

So many fun child-friendly activities were planned, and kids could choose to participate in them at their leisure.  An adorable wood pencil craft project was a favorite, as was filling out a back-to-school interview, creating a masterpiece at the art table and decorating cute lunch bags with fabric markers. Of course the kids also loved playing on the swing set, checking out the play house and visiting the Keller Farmhouse goats! It was the perfect evening of fun for everyone!

If all of this wasn’t enough to have you feeling excited for back-to-school, Jenny surprised guests with the most original and creative school inspired party favor display of all time! She used a vintage cubby to house school supplies of all kinds and an old locker to display custom backpacks. Monogrammed pencil pouches were showcased on a vintage school desk, while personalized notebooks were displayed on an old wire rack. The kids were literally in school supply heaven and were invited to fill their pencil boxes, pouches and backpacks with the school supplies of their dreams. Jenny even had some adorable apple stamped bags with Tree Top pouches inside, perfect for school lunches! (As a mom looking for healthy options for my kids, I love that Tree Top is a trusted brand dedicated to delivering top-quality products and premium ingredients!)
