Valentine’s Day is a great day for surprises! This year, Christina Goff of 4 Kids Cakes wanted to surprise her children with a Valentine’s Day breakfast. It is full of festive decorations and party supplies (including our striped paper straws), delicious breakfast favorites and even some gorgeous Valentine themed treats! Plus, Christina is sharing some mouthwatering recipes you won’t want to miss! You will love getting some inspiration for your own Valentine’s Day breakfast!
Normally Christina enjoys planning her celebrations way in advance. For this Valentine’s Day breakfast, however, she decided to do it totally last minute. With only 3 days to pull it off, Christina contacted Kim from Small Moments, who designed an entire printable set on the spot! Christina was thrilled with the results. Aren’t they adorable?
In Christina’s family, they have a tradition of having heart shaped waffles for breakfast on Valentine’s Day. Christina wanted to mix things up a bit, while still honoring their tradition. She decided to make red velvet waffles with a cream cheese frosting syrup to be the stars of the menu! Christina used a simple recipe from Duncan Hines.
Hashbrowns, eggs, & bacon folded into the shape of hearts were also offered on the breakfast menu.
On the sweets table, Christina included mini donuts, french macarons, rice krispy treats, hot cocoa, and the delicious marshmallows from MadysonsMarshmallows. Look at those gorgeous ombre marshmallows! Christina says they are just as delicious as they are beautiful! We believe her!
For the breakfast table, Christina kept things festive, but simple. She shopped the party section of her local Walmart picking up sweet themed plates, cups, napkins and silverware to coordinate. She selected a beautiful arrangement of roses from their Valentine’s Day floral department. Each place setting was accented with darling cookies from Alison at Sweet Themes Bakery–a favorite local bakery! Milk and hot cocoa with more marshmallow’s from Madyson’s Marshmallows were the beverages of choice. Plastic bottles were wrapped with sweet custom beverage wrappers by Kim. Our popular red and white striped straws added a trendy pop of color and were home to mouthwateringly beautiful donuts.
According to Christina, the surprise went off without a hitch. Christina burned the midnight oil and made everything while the kids were sleeping and also worked fast and furiously while they were away at school. While it was a whirlwind 3 days, Christina felt the efforts were so worth it! One of her children asked why she went to so much work. Her reply? “Just because I love them.” We agree with Christina that Valentine’s Day can be about so much more than just a significant other. So choose a lucky recipient and whip up a wonderful Valentine’s Day breakfast for them!
1 pkg. Red Velvet Cake mix
2 cups milk
Whisk together & follow your waffle maker instructions. Super easy. Even cuter in the shape of hearts!
Cream Cheese Frosting Syrup:
1 pkg. cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 cup. shortening
1/2 cup whipping cream
1 T. vanilla (I prefer clear vanilla for this)
1 cup + whole or 2% milk
1/4 tsp. salt
16 oz. powdered sugar
Blend cheese, butter, and shortening. Add remaining ingredients. You can add more milk to get desired consistency of a thick syrup. Poor over waffles & enjoy!
